Kilkenny Castle
Kilkenny Castle is located at South/East region of Ireland.
Original castle most probably was mad of wood in mid 12 century. the first stone castle added on 1260 and had 4 towers at the corner that still kept their original shape.
The castle was owned by the seneschal of Kilkenny Sir Gilbert De Bohun who inherited the county of Kilkenny and castle from his mother in 1270, in 1300 he was outlawed by Edward I but was reinstated in 1303, he held the castle until his death in 1381. It was not granted to his heir Joan, but seized by the crown and sold to the Butler family in 1391.

This gorgeous needle work is made on a velvet background with cotton, linen and metal gold threads somewhere in late 1700s.
It is made for religious purposes.

This piece is not a tie-dye, they die the silk before weaving it. The gold color comes from Zafferan and the background color is Madder red.
It comes in 3 panels.
This silk Ikat must be woven for someone very special. Because tribal people do not have time to make the silk themselves and they are migrating every 6 months, silk has been very expensive material.
